I wish I could help him, he has been studying for days and making notes. Now, he screams that he has forgotten everything and is going to fail, Madhu says of her son, Saurabh Gupta, a bright student.

In such cases, if parents calm down their wards by patting their backs and telling them that it does not really matter how they fare, because they have studied hard and will surely recall the lessons during the exam could help calm down the student.

Deep breathing every morning for five minutes is a good way to relax the brain. One could sit in the padmasana posture and practise it, it really helps, says Bindu Prasad, senior counsellor with Sardar Patel Vidyalaya.

Ruchi Sharma feels like sobbing. The class X student has studied hard during the preparatory holidays but finds she is not scoring well in the sample practise papers she has been attempting at home.

Romanov says plumber's bid to buy Hearts 'just a pipe dream'

You know, there are some jokes that are so funny that it's worth wheeling them out at every opportunity, that isn't one of them. Give it a rest now. Can't believe the Supporters Trust are against Munro making an offer. Which supporters do the purport to represent? I've been through all this on another thread already today, so I'll just summarise it here:- supporters pissed off- need someone to push for answers- this mob should be doing something- but they're as much a part of the problem as Romanov himselfWhether we need a new owner or not, we need someone to do something. If he comes in with an offer at least it gets things out in the open. .

Councilman MikeK Recalls Knievel Action Figure

Top: Young MikeK playing with Evel Knievel action figure; bottom: MikeK receives inspiration from his childhood friends before leaving for a Coeur d'Alene City Council meeting.

I had a classic Evel Knievel motorcycle riding action figure when I was a kid. The stunts my brothers and I would stage for that motorcycle toy were legendary (riding out a second story window, chasing the dog around the house without getting chewed to ribbons, you name it). RIP Evel. I wonder what happened to Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man who played the role of Evel's arch-nemesis in the boyhood action figure wars?/Councilman MikeK.

Question: What was your favorite action figure/doll when you were little?

Will 'Amnesty' Sink McCain?

Every program in the world that has allowed illegal immigrants to stay has been called an "amnesty." McCain himself called it "amnesty" as recently as May 2003, when he told the Tucson Citizen "I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people who are eligible … Amnesty has to be an important part ..." But once the focus-group results were in, "amnesty" became a four-letter word. ...[snip]

Real Straight Talk would be to say "Sure, it's an amnesty, but we don't really have any choice" ...

P.S.: The McCain, post-focus-group argument is that it can't be "amnesty" if it has some requirements--e.g., to pay a fine, learn English, etc. But it turns out that Ronald Reagan's 1986 "comprehensive" reform, which he and everyone else called an "amnesty," had requirements too, including payment of fees.

Bernanke Signals Further Rate Cuts

With the Federal Reserve trying to navigate a challenging course between slowing growth and rising inflation, the central bank's chairman tried to address the twin dilemmas in his semiannual monetary policy testimony before Congress on Feb. 27. The verdict from Fed watchers: Fed Chief Ben Bernanke steered his testimony toward the "dovish" side, placing greater emphasis on the central bank's need to shore up economic growth via monetary policy.

Indeed, Bernanke clearly left the door open for further Fed easing as he noted that downside risks to growth remain the main threat, reports Action Economics. While his testimony featured several paragraphs on inflation, he concluded that the Fed will be "carefully evaluating incoming information…and will act in a timely manner as needed to support growth and to provide adequate insurance against downside risks."

Fed Remains Focused on Growth

The term "adequate" is a major departure from the use of "substantive" when Fed officials presaged their January rate cuts, says Action, and "this suggests to us a less aggressive policy course, at least in March, unless we get a big downside surprise in the employment report."

"[T]here was no indication of a more hawkish message in response to signs of a buildup in inflation pressures," wrote Morgan Stanley (MS) economist David Greenlaw in a Feb.

Wake Forest's Ghee has a secret weapon

Brandon Ghee makes a video copy each Sunday of the Wake Forest game he played in the previous day, sends it through the mail or via his parents to his older brother Patrick, and waits for the phone to ring.

“It usually doesn’t take long,’’ said Ghee, a graduate of Jack Britt High School. “Sometimes he gets back to me that Sunday night.’’

Patrick Ghee always offers a quick critique of his brother’s performance during those calls. Patrick does so from a perspective of experience.

He was Wake Forest’s starting safety the last two seasons and participated in training camp with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks over the summer.

“He tells me if I’m not hustling or gives me tips on backpedaling,’’ Brandon Ghee said.

Marine program aims to beef up brainpower

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Marine Capt. Brian Iglesias saw a man go from store to store, talking with shopkeepers in Ramadi, Iraq. Outwardly, there was nothing unusual about the man. He looked like everybody else.

Later, as Iglesias and his unit rolled through town, they saw shopkeepers board up their stores.

And then it happened. The Marines were shot at -- caught in a rolling street fight in which one of their own was killed.

Passenger ‘will never forget’ crash horror

A TRAIN passenger involved in a South Lakes crash says she will never be able to forget it. Sue Jones was a passenger on the First TransPennine Express train involved in the collision at Wraysholme, near Flookburgh, on Wednesday morning. The 8.27am Manchester Airport to Barrow service and a Land Rover collided on the level crossing, seriously injuring the 4x4's driver and passenger. Mrs Jones, 61, from Alsager in Cheshire, was on a day trip to Barrow, the first time she has ever travelled on the Furness railway line. She said: “I remember vividly the horror I felt – I don't think I will ever forget it." Mrs Jones, a property guide for the National Trust, was travelling in the front carriage of the train. She said: “It was a bright sunny day, and the views were superb. I was really enjoying the journey.

Cloudy Lane clear favourite

There was no question he was a decent horse but he did surprise me a little with the way he won. The reason I ran him in the Bobbyjo was to get some experience into him because he'd only had three runs over fences in his life before that. The Irish National was going through my mind as a target for him before that, but now he has other options."

Connections have until noon on Saturday to make a final decision.

The final decision for the connections of Tango Royal may be a date for retirement but that may well be some time off after his victory in the National Britannia Veterans' Handicap Chase at Newbury. These races, which were added to the programme this season, are restricted to horses aged 10 or over and are proving a great success.

Kandjar d'Allier led the field a merry dance and was still there at the last but it was Last Tango who pulled clear to beat Briery Fox by two lengths to prove that there is plenty of life left in these old horses yet.

Edibles: Raised beds give boost to mid-March sowing

I'm waiting impatiently for a run of several dry days. Once they've arrived, I'll dig a few raised beds. Between month's end and mid-March, the beds will be planted to parsley, peas and spinach -- the earliest crops of spring.

The early-season advantage of raised beds over flat ground is that they warm faster and drain better. Warmer, better-drained soil encourages germination of seeds and discourages the rots and molds that foil our attempts to garden early.

All you need to build a raised bed are a shovel, rake, twine and stakes. Mark off a bed with stakes and twine. It should be 4 feet wide at its base by whatever length you choose. Begin digging from the center, turning over the soil to the shovel's depth and working out to the edges. When you've finished digging, you'll have a peaked mound.
