Lucara Updates Bulk Sampling Progress at Mothae
Full commissioning of the kimberlite processing and diamond recovery plant was completed during the week of February 22, 2008 and sample processing commenced on February 25, 2008. The initial 30,000 tonnes of kimberlite is being processed in a series of 5,000 to 10,000 tonne samples taken from various kimberlite phases within the 8.8 hectare Mothae pipe. The material is being processed through a dense media separation (DMS) plant which operates at a nominal 30 tonnes per hour. The process plant is designed to recover diamonds in various size fractions ranging from +2 mm to -18 mm. Heavy mineral concentrate produced by the DMS plant is passed through a continuous grease belt for diamond recovery, with the exception of the very coarse fraction (+12mm) which will be hand sorted. The current operating schedule plans for the initial 30,000 tonne sample to be completed by the third quarter of 2008.
Corpas locked, loaded Rockie
TUCSON — Manny Corpas' knack for perfect endings has created the beginning of a long-term relationship with the Rockies. The Rockies agreed in principle Wednesday on a four-year deal with two club option years with Corpas, The Denver Post learned, continuing a trend of locking up their core young players. In a deal first reported by The Denver Post, Corpas, 25, will receive more than $8 million in guaranteed money, with the possibility of earning $22 million if both the options are exercised in his last year of arbitration and first year of free agency in 2013. It represents a landmark deal, the longest the Rockies have ever given a relief pitcher. Baseball has no precedent for a closer with less than two years' experience .
New political coverage portal
Staffers heard on the police scanner this morning about kids obstructing snow plows to prevent plows from creating berms at the driveways of their homes. Police responded to this incident. Folks wondered if the parents are involved (whether the parents are telling their kids to be human shields), or whether this was a case of kids not wanting to shovel snow. No kid can conceive of this on his or her own, other editors argued, but "I don't know, there are some pretty lazy kids out there," said photo director Larry Reisnouer. Was there too much news coverage on snow? Editor Steve Smith noted that staffers who are normally against weather stories were producing great coverage for today's paper in print and online. Well it snowed and the roads are dangerous - not just for people who drive and walk, but for the elderly and those who have disabilities, folks said.
